WELCOME

*PLEASE READ THIS FIRST*

Welcome to the NEW poetry contest... hopefully some of you are returning from the last time!!!

so there aren't really any rules, you may post as many poems as you like as long as the fit the themes.

We run two themes at a time one that goes with a word or a quote and another that goes with a photo. they are two separate contests and don't have anything to do with each other.

you may either post your poems as comments or send them to me by  e-mail. PoetryEntries@hotmail.com

As much as I'd love to tell you the winner would get fantastic prizes I have to sadly say you don't, this is simply the joy of getting named the best. it's a fun way to get inspiration and compare your ideas and work to others!

If you do not have a xanga already do not worry, simply sign in with this username: Writing_Poems Password: words... so no worries if you don't have xanga... JOIN THE FUN!

If this is confusing just ask questions in a comment under this post.

ON EACH THEME **

and winners from older themes

!!!!!!!!!!!!WINNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picking a winner was really hard. If you didn't win it doesn't mean your poem sucked, it doesn't even mean your poem was remotely bad, it could be that it's just not our flavor of poetry, The biggest thing we focused on was how well we thought the poem related to the theme. This theme being Paths or Roads. Now you may feel your poem does portray that idea, but we had to look at the poems and decide which one to us seemed to show and explore that theme, and showed an original idea. Unfortunately there were some talented poems written that we just couldn't give the winning to because they didn't fit the theme. But all that said we'd love to give a BIG EXCITED CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS TIMES WINNERS.

1st place goes to: Rhett N. Marley

Going The Extra Mile

5 years have passed

Memories that stay in my mind

The times when I made a mistake

Leaving what meant most behind

You may think it's too late

But in my heart I know it's not

I can't wait for the day when this is over

To cherish the one that I've got

As we return to a time where we struggle

Know that I'm here to help

Unlike how it was in the past

You don't have to do this all yourself

When I see your beautiful eyes

I can tell when you've been crying

I can almost feel how much you hurt

Inside your heart is where you're hiding

So where do I begin

How in the world could I start

Words don't mean enough to relieve

The enormous pain inside your heart

I know you want to runaway

Scared of what might be ahead

Not knowing the answer is frightening

But you chose to be strong instead

Years of fighting for what you believe

Never giving up when we parted

You don't have much left and that why I'm here

To finish up what you started

Your life has become a testimony

It shows who you truly can be

When no one seemed to stand by you

You still stuck up for me

The passion inside my heart

For you to see from within

To make you realize who you are

To make you feel beautiful again

Taking away your hurt

Just to embrace all your pain

Waiting for what seems to be eternal

But I know what I have to gain

To a story that will have a happy ending

Turning sorrow tears into a joyful smile

Patience was the key to success

For the two that had to go the extra mile

By: Rhett N. Marley

Second place goes to: Alexandra

Step into the dark

Step one into the dark

Her foot follows but she blind

Does she turn or does she go straight?

She must let her heart decide.

Step two, shes in so deep

Her choice was made, her debt to pay

Will there be another moment?

Another memory, another day?

Step three into the lost unknown

As dreams cradle her torn heart

With crevices of hope

That keep her life and death apart

Step four shes screaming

but she continues on

Through the rain in tears and the smile in the sun

She longs for the light

Third Place goes to: Jessicarose Hutchins

Drive Arizona

I dreamt of a highway
stretching out ahead of me,
not waiting for me to catch up.
Just continuously unwinding,
thinking it was a game.

With the sun,
the clay-baked rocks,
and the canyons behind me,
I followed, unsure of what was so thrilling
about the chase.
Curiosity was the basis of everything
in this world with no law.

The oasis in my mind was what
I was driving toward.
A place where there would be
whatever I needed.
But this isn't the tale of the ending,
this is the tale of the journey.

It is a long distance.
Just me,
the tarmac,
and the static on the radio.
I am unsure what lies ahead,
but not knowing is half the fun.

I enjoy the half-silence,
the hot desert wind in my hair
making me feel like an Israeli soldier girl,
and the oleanders in the distance.
Nothing else could be more perfect.

Honarable mention:
Homesickened

In this world there are many roads
In every direction
That go every place.
And they all lead back to here
So this must be my home

In this place there are memories
That tell me who I was
And who I wanted to be
And exactly what the difference was
And why I want to leave

Ben Brabbin

Noticed for good imagery

Here is a poem written by ThomasSevencrows at http://www.xanga.com/xxsevencrowsxx

Here the road gets tight and the rain spatters dust into nickel size spots like thousands of crowns fallen from earthen kings. Silhouetted by browning naked branches the moon rises languidly into a half haloed brilliance set in the bruised fleshtones of near-dark.

I wonder if I think aloud will she feel me.

I wonder if I hold my breath will she breath for me.

I wonder if I reach out

will you free me.

and lastly we'd like to say Lauren R. (TKO) we like your poem we just wanted it to be shorter and trimmed...

Actually we had a fun time reading all of them, they are all worth mentioning in their own special way. so they are still on this site if you'd like to go read them, feel free to leave comment with your opinions on the selected, lets just stay nice okay? and we'd love to see every one return for the next go around.

The Newest THEME for the contest will be:

One blade of grass

(please try to make sure you relate your poem to this subject that be using the line directly in the poem or just relatively talking about the line.... also, please put your submissions for this theme under this post... THANX... and take your time this doesn't end for awhile, and psssst, tell your friends)

Thursday, April 27, 2006

Please remember we have three different themes running at this time... scroll down though the last posts for more information... and a super big thanx to those of you who have already submitted your wonderful poems! (if you have any questions please e-mail them or ask under the first post... THANX!

Answer to a question. The contest has three themes running. 2 of them are photos and one is a paths or roads. The idea is to either use a photo and write a poem that goes with it, or take the idea of paths or roads and write a poem that goes with that theme. you may write as many poems as you like, or only one. any more questions feel free to ask!

Please notice what the themes are and try to gear you poems to have a clear mention or idea around the theme.

Another note. It is helpfull for keeping the site organized if you comment your poem under the post that has the matching theme.
